Lewis Foster Presents New Artworks in "By Design" at Sage Studio Opening 2/4

PASC artist Lewis Foster's artwork will be featured in a group exhibition "By Design" opening Saturday, 2/4 at Sage Studio. The show explores how design touches everything around us—from fashion to interior decorating to the recurring patterns in nature. 

The show features pieces by Anna Burke (SAGE Studio), Lewis Foster (PASC), Annie Rose Macer (North Pole), James Rosa (LAND Gallery), Gav Sears (SAGE Studio), Byron Smith (LAND Gallery), and Woodley White. 

Sage Studio is an Austin, TX based studio and exhibitions program for artists with Disabilities. SAGE (Supporting Artistic Growth and Entrepreneurship) Studio serves artists with disabilities through two main programs: their Studio Program and our Exhibition Program.

PASC Southgate is launching a Saturday studio program open to any disabled adults in the area. We will be hosting an info session on Feb 11, 10am-12pm at our Southgate studio, where we will discuss cost, duration of program and studio details.

Gallery dedicated to artists with disabilities unlocks hidden creativity by Duante Beddingfield, Detroit Free Press

This weekend offers the last chance to see the inaugural exhibit of Detroit’s first gallery dedicated to artists with disabilities.

The exhibit, titled “Liberty Realm,” opened last month in the Eastern Market storefront conference center of The Vella Group, in collaboration with Progressive Art Studio Collective (PASC). It closes June 5.

The pop-up gallery will host three more exhibits throughout 2022. Artist Ashley Hawkins, whose colorful, Motown-inspired pieces sold quickly, said working with PASC on the exhibition has been a joyful experience.

OMA / Jason Long Transforms Former Warehouse into Mixed-Use Arts and Community Venue in Detroit for PASC and Signal Return

OMA /Jason Long revealed its latest adaptive reuse project in Detroit, transforming a former bakery and warehouse into mixed-use art, education and community space. Developed in collaboration with Library Street Collective, the project provides new headquarters for two local non-profits, PASC and Signal-Return, while creating a mix of artist studios, galleries, community-serving retail and gathering spaces. Dubbed “LANTERN”, the development is set to become an “activity condenser.”

Southgate — In a nondescript strip mall about 14 miles south of Detroit, a small group of budding artists gathers in a large, brightly lit studio on a rainy weekday morning to paint and draw.

Spread out at several tables with their heads bent to their work, some work on watercolor paintings. Others use watercolor markers. One draws a black and white flag by hand with a pen. Brightly colored, vibrant paintings and mixed media pieces cover the white walls.

Detroit’s First Gallery Dedicated to Artists with Disabilities to Open May 6 Near Eastern Market - D - Business

The first Detroit gallery dedicated to artists with disabilities will make its debut near Eastern Market on May 6.

The opening exhibit is titled Liberty Realm. Over the next five months artwork from artists with developmental disabilities and mental health needs will be featured in a special gallery taking over the storefront conference center of The Vella Group through a unique philanthropic partnership. 

The artists are part of Services to Enhance Potential (STEP), a major provider of supports and services in Wayne County to those with developmental disabilities and mental health needs. The Vella Group is collaborating with STEP’s Progressive Art Studio Collective (PASC), a program that helps disabled artists advance independent artistic practices and build individual career paths in the art and design fields.
