Darlene Mahan

Darlene is a Detroit based artist. Her art practice is driven by an interest in pattern and shape. She creates large compositions of juxtaposed shapes, grids, curving lines and diagonals, which she renders in contrasting watercolors, colored pencil or acrylics. Overtop of these she adds patterns of short linework covering her compositions in contrasting colors creating layered compositions reminiscent of New Guinean bark paintings or Malian Bògòlanfini fabric. Darlene has exhibited at Swords Into Plowshares Gallery, Detroit (2022), Art Enables, Washington DC (2022), PASC Detroit Pop-Up Gallery (2022), The Scarab Club, Detroit (2021), and two online exhibitions on the PASC website (2021).
